One of the wilayats of Al Buraimi Governorate and the largest in terms of area, is located in the northwestern part of the Sultanate of Oman, bordered on the west and south by the wilayat of Al Buraimi and the city of Al Ain of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and separated from the wilayats of North Al Batinah Governorate from the east by a mountain chain and bordered on the north by the emirates of Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
The wilayat is administratively affiliated to the prosecution of Al-Rawda, which will host the special economic zone in accordance with the high directives announced by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, to contribute to the support and development of the economy by establishing projects, attracting investments and capital for them, and creating job opportunities for citizens.
The population of the wilayat is about 11,136 people, according to the statistics of the Naional Center for Statistics and Information for the month of January 2024.
There are a number of tourist and archaeological features and natural attractions that made it an active tourist destination, especially in the winter season. This also includes valleys, mountains, sand dunes and trekking activities, camping and exploration. Wilayat Mahdah is famous for its fertile soil, which made it an agricultural land for a number of local and foreign crops. Wheat is one of its most famous agricultural crops, in addition to a variety of palm trees.
Making its Industial sector strong is the mining. There are many mining sites that contribute to the economy of the governorate in particular, and the Sultanate of Oman in general.
In its traditional handicrafts, the most important ones are the textile industry and fronds.
