Al Buraimi Governorate is experiencing rapid developmental momentum, with the Al Buraimi Oasis Project, located at the heart of the Wilayah, standing out as one of its most prominent initiatives. The project represents a refined integration of historical authenticity and modern architecture. It is established on a historic site that once served as the economic and social center of the region in the 1960s, hosting markets, local administration offices, and acting as a meeting point for trade caravans, which granted it significant importance at that time. The Al Buraimi Oasis Project is part of the Governorate’s vision to transform this historic site into a vibrant destination that offers visitors a comprehensive experience blending the charm of the past with the beauty of the present. Equipped with modern facilities and contemporary services, the project spans 68,000 square meters between the historic Al-Hillah and Al-Khandaq forts. Its location, at the heart of Al Buraimi’s most notable heritage landmarks, grants it exceptional cultural and touristic value. The design carefully integrates traditional architectural styles with modern elements, creating a unique visual experience that reflects the authenticity of Omani heritage while embracing modernity, giving visitors a sense of connection to history. The project includes 27 commercial outlets, featuring a variety of cafés and modern restaurants spread across two floors, with panoramic views of surrounding historic landmarks. Additional features include landscaped green spaces, fountains, pedestrian and cycling pathways, and smart, eco-friendly shading systems aligned with the Sultanate’s sustainability goals. A central reflective pool, mirroring the iconic Al-Hillah Fort, serves as a focal point, offering visitors a visually captivating scene. Beneath the pool lies a specialty restaurant that provides an exceptional dining experience. According to Eng. Obeid bin Salim Al-Kaabi, Director of the Projects Department at Al Buraimi Governorate, the project marks a qualitative leap in the Governorate’s development landscape, offering a comprehensive touristic experience that meets the needs of both the local community and visitors. He stated: “The project has reached 88% completion, progressing steadily, and we aim to deliver the first phase before the end of this year.” He also highlighted the close and continuous follow-up of H.E. the Governor, which has significantly contributed to the project’s efficiency and quality, ensuring it will serve as a valuable addition to the local economy and the development of the tourism sector. The Al Buraimi Oasis Project is expected to enhance the Governorate’s appeal as a cultural and touristic destination, attracting visitors from within and beyond Oman, while also creating new investment opportunities. It will stand as a landmark on the map of economic and tourism development, embodying the Governorate’s vision of breathing new life into its historic sites and transforming them into vibrant destinations that seamlessly blend heritage and modernity.
