Al Buraimi Governorate inaugurated this evening the Buraimi Oasis Project – City Center, under the patronage of His Excellency Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi. The project stands as one of its most prominent developmental and urban initiatives, and as an integrated urban destination that revitalizes the historic site through a modern approach that combines authenticity with contemporary needs. The project is located on one of the oldest and most vital sites in the wilayat (province), which, during the 1960s, served as a center for economic and social activity, a meeting point for trade caravans, and a headquarters for local administration. It has been developed within a vision aimed at transforming historical sites into vibrant destinations that contribute to strengthening the cultural identity of the governorate and enhancing its tourism appeal. The Buraimi Oasis Project – City Center spans an area of approximately 68,000 square meters between Al Hilla Fort and Al Khandaq Fort. It features a strategic location at the heart of key historical landmarks. Its design carefully blends traditional architectural character with modern touches, providing an integrated experience that enhances visitors’ connection to the place within a comfortable and contemporary environment. In its first phase, the project consists of an integrated system of commercial, service, and recreational facilities. It includes two investment-ready commercial buildings comprising 29 retail units designated for shops, cafés, and restaurants, in addition to an administrative building, a visitor service center, pedestrian pathways connecting the various components of the project, open spaces prepared for events and community activities, and a public services building. The project features landscaped green and water elements, including a mini oasis and 174 palm trees distributed across plazas and walkways according to the approved landscaping plans for the first phase. It also includes water fountains, dedicated walking and cycling paths, and a distinctive building with a unique architectural character, topped by a reflective water pool that mirrors Al Hilla Fort onto the main street. The lower level of this building houses a restaurant, enhancing the investment value of the site and adding a distinctive dimension to the visitor experience. The project is supported by more than 200 parking spaces, along with sustainability features such as solar-powered shaded seating areas and smart lighting poles. These elements align with national directions toward sustainability and environmental protection, while enhancing operational efficiency and quality of life in the urban environment. His Excellency Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed Al Busaidi stated that the Buraimi Oasis Project – City Center embodies the governorate’s vision for developing urban destinations, achieving the concept of human-centered cities, and promoting sustainability in urban planning. He affirmed that the project was implemented according to the highest technical and operational standards to meet the expectations of the community and visitors. He added that the project represents a comprehensive development initiative that will contribute to stimulating tourism and economic activity, creating job opportunities for the people of the governorate, enhancing local content, and supporting small and medium enterprises as well as home-based businesses. It also serves as an interactive space for families and youth, a driver of the local economy, and an urban outlet that reflects the identity and history of Al Buraimi Governorate. He further noted that the project is expected to become a major attraction in the coming period and to strengthen Al Buraimi’s position on the map of urban and cultural tourism, in line with sustainable development directions and the governorate’s future vision.
