The Mahdha International Sand Drag Racing Championship concluded as part of the Winter Buraimi 2026 events, amid strong public engagement and wide official attendance. The championship created a scene of excitement and challenge, affirming Al Buraimi Governorate’s ability to host high-quality sporting events and organize them according to advanced professional standards.Over two consecutive days, the championship featured the participation of elite professional and amateur drivers from various wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman and GCC countries. They competed across several categories in a safe and well-organized environment, reflecting the growing interest in motorsports and the increasing demand for such competitions. The event also included accompanying activities such as home-based businesses, a children’s theater, sand shows, and paragliding.The results of the first day saw competitor Waleed Mohammed Al Jais win first place in the stock body category, while Abdullah Ismail secured first place in the 6-cylinder (gas) category, and Khalid bin Turki achieved first place in the 8-cylinder (gas) category.In the final day competitions, Ibrahim Al Shenaifi secured first place in the Hilux category, while Yousuf Al Ali won first place in the 8-cylinder open category, and Khalid bin Turki was crowned first place in the 6-cylinder open category, following strong competition among participants. The winner of first place in each category received a car and 4,000 Omani rials, in addition to valuable cash and in-kind prizes awarded up to fifth place in each category, with total prizes amounting to approximately 45,000 Omani rials.Naif Al Maqbali, Championship Director and Chairman of Al Buraimi Car Club, stated that the championship reflected the strong passion for motorsports among youth, and their spirit of challenge and determination to showcase their skills in a safe and organized competitive environment. He noted that the wide participation of competitors from the Sultanate of Oman and GCC countries added excitement and enthusiasm to the competitions.He added that Omani youth have proven their ability to excel in various sports and events, whether in participation or organization. Organizing the championship was a challenge that demonstrated the competence of the governorate’s youth and their ability to successfully deliver an event of this scale. He affirmed the intention to further develop the championship in its upcoming editions and expand its scope to enhance its presence, attract more participants, and invest in youth potential by directing it toward safe sporting practices that promote positive competition.The accompanying activities of the championship will continue until tomorrow, including several programs such as home-based businesses, children’s theater, and sand shows.The closing ceremony and the honoring of winners were patronized by His Excellency Sheikh Saif bin Abdullah Al Maamari, Wali of Mahdha.
