Al Buraimi Governorate has adopted the Private Records Management System, which includes the records classification system and retention schedules, as part of its efforts to strengthen the institutional work framework and implement best professional practices in records and archives management, in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree No. (60/2007) promulgating the Law on Records and Archives.The system was officially adopted by His Excellency Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi, and His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority, reflecting the commitment of both sides to developing documentary work and enhancing the efficiency of records management in the governorate in line with approved national standards.His Excellency the Governor of Al Buraimi affirmed that the adoption of the system represents an important step toward developing the administrative and organizational work environment within the governorate by strengthening mechanisms for preserving and organizing records and regulating document circulation processes, thereby contributing to safeguarding institutional memory, supporting governance requirements, and enhancing institutional performance efficiency.For his part, His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority, explained that the adoption of records management systems across units of the State Administrative Apparatus forms part of the Authority’s efforts to establish professional practices in records management and strengthen compliance with legislation governing documentary work, ensuring the preservation of records with administrative and historical value and protecting the national memory.The system covers various types of records circulated within Al Buraimi Governorate, where documents are classified according to a clear scientific methodology, with retention periods defined for both the current and intermediate phases. It also regulates document circulation processes among different administrative divisions through approved procedures that contribute to improving work efficiency and facilitating rapid access to information.Documents of permanent value will be transferred to the National Records and Archives Authority after the completion of their retention periods for preservation within the national memory, while documents whose retention periods have expired will be disposed of in accordance with approved retention schedules and in compliance with the regulations and laws governing documentary work.The adoption of the system reflects Al Buraimi Governorate’s direction toward developing its records management framework and enhancing institutional performance efficiency, in line with administrative transformation goals and best institutional practices.
