The Municipal Council of Al Buraimi Governorate, during its fifth meeting for the year 2026 held today under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi, and in the presence of council members, discussed a number of topics related to services and development in the governorate. The meeting also included the approval of reports submitted by the council’s subcommittees and a review of the latest updates on development and service projects and initiatives with developmental impact.At the beginning of the meeting, the council commended the efforts exerted by the concerned entities in following up on projects and services across the governorate, noting that several development and service projects are progressing according to approved plans. These include the Al Buraimi Oasis project, road maintenance projects, the enhancement of the general landscape of main roads, and the artificial lake project.The council also addressed ongoing preparations for the Al Buraimi Governorate Camel Racing Championship scheduled to take place next week, in addition to initiatives aimed at developing several tourist sites, including Al Khatwa Village and Falaj Al Saarani. The council further discussed a proposal to establish a natural reserve at Jabal Al Samini and reviewed observations related to the site and its environmental aspects.During the meeting, the council reviewed a visual presentation delivered by the Heritage and Tourism Department in Al Buraimi Governorate regarding the proposed design for the rehabilitation of the Old Harat Hamasa Market. The presentation highlighted the key features and objectives of the project in preserving the heritage character of the site and enhancing its tourism and cultural value in a way that supports economic activity and showcases the governorate’s historical assets. The proposal also included the establishment of a heritage village at the site as an extension of the Al Buraimi Oasis project, with a recommendation to form a working team to follow up on matters related to the project.The council also reviewed the response of the Directorate General of Education in Al Buraimi Governorate regarding awareness programmes on the dangers of smoking and narcotic substances directed at school students, and their role in promoting health awareness and reinforcing positive behaviour among students.In addition, the council reviewed the response of His Excellency the Wali of Al Sunainah regarding the appropriate mechanism for disposing of agricultural waste in Wilayat Al Sunainah, in support of environmental preservation efforts, public health, and improved waste management within the governorate.At the conclusion of the meeting, the council affirmed the continuation of efforts to follow up on development and service-related matters and to work closely with the concerned entities in a manner that contributes to improving services, projects, and overall quality of life.
