A specialized training program titled “Renewable Energy: Global Transformations and the Sultanate of Oman’s Direction” has commenced in Al Buraimi Governorate. Organized by the Oman Energy Institute in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the program runs for five consecutive days and aims to introduce participants to global transformations in the energy sector, renewable energy strategies, and the Sultanate of Oman’s future directions in this field.The first day targeted senior leaders in the governorate, with the participation of His Excellency Sayyid Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi, Their Excellencies the Walis and their deputies, directors general, and a number of officials from government institutions. The sessions addressed several topics related to energy, the economy, and the development of civilizations, as well as the evolution of energy systems and global transformations associated with the future of energy and its challenges.The program covers a number of key themes, including the relationship between energy, the economy, and the development of civilizations; the evolution of the energy system in the Sultanate of Oman and its connection to regional and international challenges; hydrogen and clean energy; and the repurposing of capabilities and expertise from the fossil fuel sector toward the development of the clean energy industry.Over the following four days, the program will target middle management in government institutions across the governorate, contributing to enhanced knowledge of renewable energy concepts and strategies, as well as the opportunities arising from global transformations in the sector.The program forms part of efforts to raise awareness of global trends in the energy sector and keep pace with the Sultanate of Oman’s direction toward diversifying energy sources and supporting the transition to clean energy and sustainability. It is delivered by Dr. Abdullah bin Sulaiman Al Abri, Vice President for Sustainability, Health, Safety, Security and Environment at Sohar Port and Freezone.
