The Municipal Council of Al Buraimi Governorate reviewed, during its seventh meeting of 2026, a number of matters and files related to services, development, and urban planning, in addition to field reports and proposals submitted to the council.At the outset of the meeting, the council reviewed the latest development updates in the governorate, noting that preliminary indicators give cause for optimism regarding the projects and works planned for the coming period. Key developments include the approval of a new package of internal road projects across Al Buraimi Governorate, the awarding of the second phase of the Al Buraimi Oasis – City Centre and Crystal Lake projects, the upcoming completion of the kiosk project, and the standardization of the visual identity of streetlight poles. The council also highlighted the launch of the fourth edition of the Irada Initiative and the continuation of the public cleanliness campaign across the governorate’s wilayats to reduce visual blight and enhance the overall urban appearance.The council approved the minutes of its sixth meeting of 2026 before reviewing a presentation by the Events and Awareness Department at Al Buraimi Municipality on the Al Buraimi Governorate Events Plan for 2026–2027. The plan includes proposed programs and events throughout the year, most notably Al Buraimi Winter, a camel race in the Wilayat of Al Sunaynah, National Day celebrations, the Festival of Lights, and the Mahdah Drag Racing Championship. Discussions also focused on diversifying the events and ensuring their distribution across the governorate’s wilayats throughout the year.On the services front, the council reviewed the findings of a field visit to internal roads in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi, including locations affected by potholes, proposed remedial measures, and priorities for addressing them. Discussions also covered the requests of residents of Al Muallaqah area in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi, in light of the needs identified during a field visit to the area.The meeting also reviewed recommendations reached by the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee and the Governorate Development Committee during their seventh meetings regarding matters within their respective mandates. The council also followed up on responses received from the relevant authorities concerning several matters referred to them, including the construction of a speed hump for pedestrian crossing in the Wilayat of Al Sunaynah.In the planning and urban development sector, the Urban Improvement Initiative in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi was among the key matters discussed, alongside the old Hamasa Market and challenges related to paving a road in Al Ghuraifah area due to its intersection with a branch channel of Al Sarani Falaj. The council recommended coordinated efforts among the relevant authorities to resolve the conflict and complete the road paving works.The council also discussed allocating designated sites for agricultural waste, a proposal to establish an Agricultural City in the Mashrouh area of the Wilayat of Al Sunaynah, given the site’s suitable characteristics for such a project, as well as reviewing the status of existing livestock holdings located outside the designated livestock-area plans across the governorate.
